Good Evening DYI families,
We are looking forward to having Step Up Days for our Grade 3 students beginning this week. Our students surely will be coming home to explain that they saw some of their old teachers throughout the week. This gives our students a chance to be role models for the incoming students. Also, this week we begin concert season. Tuesday night, there is a Steel Drum performance and then during the following weeks, we have our annual grade level concerts. We are looking forward to hearing these performances.
Throughout June, we have had and will continue to have field trips. We would like to thank everyone for learning how to use the digital platform in Parent Square. New this year, families will need to sign a “permission slip” for Field Day. If you have ever gone to a Trampoline or Jump Park, you are familiar with signing a waiver before you can participate. At Field Day, there will be an inflatable so all families need to sign the permission slip/waivers so their child can participate. There will be a Parent Square post on June 1, where you can sign the permission slip which includes the waiver. For Field Day, we will invite families to the afternoon session, which is Tug of War. We will alert all families to times in the near future. Last year we finished in time so we were able to have a Grade 4 vs. Grade 5 family tug of war contest, so be ready to kick off your shoes and join in on the fun.
For this Friday, we have Bike to School Day before school begins. Scroll down and check out the flyer. Make sure you fill up your tires before Friday morning and be ready for a fun ride to school
Lastly, please do not forget about the busing form so your child will have a ride to school next year. Here is the message:
The district is changing how families can access bus transportation. If you want to have a bus stop for your child in the 26-27 school year, you need to read the following message:
The district has a new transportation request process for the 2026–2027 school year. Families must fill out a transportation form for each student to let us know if bus service is needed for next school year. To make sure transportation is ready for the first day of school in September, forms must be turned in by June 25. Forms turned in after June 25 may not be processed before school starts. Returning students who do not submit a form by the deadline will not automatically receive bus transportation. Families will need to submit a late request, which could cause a delay in service.
Sincerely,
Mr. Blake, Dr. Greeson and Mrs. Cleary

We are grateful to our teachers and staff for taking the time to celebrate the many ways students make a difference each day. Thank you as well to our families for your continued encouragement and partnership in supporting student growth and success.
Congratulations to all of our April Students of the Month! Your positive attitudes and actions help make DYI a welcoming place where everyone can learn, grow, and feel a sense of belonging. Keep up the great work!

All of the DYI Chorus students have been preparing for our June performances, and we are looking forward to co-hosting alongside the Orchestra and Band. The entire DYI community is invited to attend the 5th Grade Concert on Tuesday, June 9, and the 4th Grade Concert on Thursday, June 11, both beginning at 7pm. Families of Chorus students, please check the messages from Ms. Higgins for the details of both performances.

Ms. Studley and Mr. Delcourt's classes had a blast at the Concord Museum. The students learned about how kids dressed and how they would become apprentices for future jobs. Students got to see rare artifacts, including one of the original lanterns used in the Old North Church!
In math, 5th grade students are learning how to plot coordinates and find patterns in ordered pairs.

For our science experiment, we studied how landslides happen and what causes them. We created a small model hill using soil, leaves, rocks and sticks along with small paper houses.. Then, we slowly poured water onto the hill to represent heavy rain.
At first, the soil stayed in place. But as more water was added, the ground became weak and started sliding down the slope. This showed us that too much rain can make hills unstable and increase the chance of landslides. We also noticed that steeper slopes caused faster and larger slides.
This experiment helped us understand why plants and strong roots are important for holding soil together. It was a fun and interesting way to learn about fast changes to earth.

DYI recently held its annual Memorial Day Assembly to honor and remember those who have served our country. We were proud to welcome Staff Sergeant Theodor Bowen, who shared thoughtful words and reflections about his service in the U.S. Army. We are incredibly thankful for his dedication and for taking the time to speak with our school community.
The assembly also featured wonderful musical performances led by Mrs. Capparella and the DYI Band, as well as meaningful poetry readings by students Harper Guimond and Anabelle Mahoney Delahoussaye. Thank you to everyone who helped make this special event such a memorable and respectful tribute.

Thank you all for helping make our One School, One Book Family Literacy Night such a memorable and meaningful event for our students and families. Your time, creativity, energy, and teamwork helped create a welcoming and joyful evening that truly celebrated the power of reading and community.
A special thank you goes out to everyone who helped prepare behind the scenes—organizing materials, setting up activities, decorating spaces, donating items, and supporting all of the little details that made the event run so smoothly. Your efforts did not go unnoticed and were deeply appreciated.
We would also like to thank our classroom teachers for embracing Fish in a Tree throughout this experience. Your thoughtful discussions, encouragement, and enthusiasm helped students connect deeply with the story and built excitement across our school community.
Most importantly, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to author Lynda Mullaly Hunt for visiting DYI and spending time with our students and families. Her message of kindness, perseverance, empathy, and belonging connected so beautifully with our school community and made the evening incredibly special. Meeting the author of Fish in a Tree was an unforgettable experience for many of our students and families.
Thank you again to everyone who helped make this event such a success. It was wonderful to see our school community come together around literacy, learning, and connection. We are so grateful for all that you do for our students each and every day.

Fourth grade students recently enjoyed a meaningful presentation from the Yarmouth Advocacy Group for Living with Disabilities. Guest speakers visited DYI to share about their disabilities, daily lives, challenges, and strengths, helping students better understand and appreciate the experiences of others. This presentation connected closely to our school-wide SEL focus of the month, Sense of Belonging, and reinforced the importance of valuing and respecting everyone despite our differences.
We are incredibly thankful to our guests for sharing their personal stories and experiences with our students. Their visit continues to leave a lasting impact on our school community each year, and we look forward to welcoming them back again next year!

Fourth grade students recently enjoyed two exciting field trip experiences! Students traveled to the New Bedford Performing Arts Theater to see a musical performance of Rosie the Riveter, where they learned about history, perseverance, and teamwork through an engaging live performance.
Students also visited the Buttonwood Park Zoo on one of the hottest days of the school year! Despite the heat, students had a wonderful time exploring the zoo, observing animals from around the world, and learning more about their habitats and adaptations. These memorable experiences provided meaningful opportunities for learning, exploration, and fun outside the classroom.
