Good Evening DYI families,
We are entering one of the busiest parts of the school year. Warmer weather, field trips, concerts and performances are all upon us. First of all, a HUGE congratulations to our performers for “Under the Sea”. These students did great at the evening performance and also pulled off a successful school performance as well. This was one of the most energetic drama crews we have ever had. A special thanks to the Cape Cod Theater Company for working with us every year. Bravo!
For our Grade 4 families, sorry for the multiple field trip forms. I think we have hit our stride with the new electronic forms, which are much easier on the famly end. We are still learning how to organize this on the school end. Again, thank you for your patience.
A very important message for all families. The district is changing how families can access bus transportation. If you want to have a bus stop for your child in the 26-27 school year, you need to read the following message:
The district has a new transportation request process for the 2026–2027 school year. Families must fill out a transportation form for each student to let us know if bus service is needed for next school year. To make sure transportation is ready for the first day of school in September, forms must be turned in by June 25. Forms turned in after June 25 may not be processed before school starts. Returning students who do not submit a form by the deadline will not automatically receive bus transportation. Families will need to submit a late request, which could cause a delay in service.
Next, MCAS testing is occurring next week. If your child has an appointment on a MCAS test day, we ask that you be in touch with the school. We would rather students not start their test, leave, and then continue their test. Students do not perform as well when this happens. We can work out a plan with you if you have an appointment you can not change.
Lastly, a heads up for families. As the weather has improved, we have noticed some of our students have packed a second set of clothes for recess. This would not be like changing for a gym class. Some of our students ask to use the bathroom right before recess, change, and then head out to recess. When the students return to the classroom, the teachers wonder why their student quite literally looks different from the last moment they have seen them. Often, the recess staff would have no idea what the students look like when they arrive to school so the difference is difficult to notice for the recess staff. Just a heads up for all families in case their child packs a second outfit in their backpack. Often, these outfits are not for Physical Education class because students hardly ever change for gym class.
Sincerely,
Mr. Blake, Dr. Greeson and Mrs. Cleary

As Teacher Appreciation Week comes to a close, we want to take a moment to sincerely thank our incredible teachers and staff for the care, dedication, and passion they bring to our students each and every day.
This week at DYI, we celebrated our staff in many special ways:
- Monday, teachers enjoyed breakfast and coffee to start the week off feeling appreciated.
- Tuesday, students shared thoughtful notes, cards, and kind messages with their teachers.
- Wednesday, our PTO generously sponsored a special lunch for staff.
- Thursday, administration provided a small gift to thank teachers for all they do for our school community.
- Friday, students and families brightened teachers’ days with flowers, drawings, and thoughtful gestures of appreciation.
Throughout the week, our students showed tremendous kindness and gratitude, and we are so proud of the way our school community came together to celebrate the people who make DYI such a special place to learn and grow.
Thank you to our families and PTO for your continued support and partnership. Your encouragement and appreciation mean so much to our staff.

In addition to Teacher Appreciation Week, this week was also Nurse Appreciation Week, and we would like to give a very special Dolphin Way shout-out to our amazing school nurse, Nurse Julia!
Nurse Julia demonstrates the Dolphin Way every single day through her kindness, compassion, patience, and dedication to caring for our students and staff. Whether helping students feel better, supporting families, or simply offering a calm and caring presence, she plays such an important role in making DYI a safe and supportive place for all.
Thank you, Nurse Julia, for all that you do for our school community. We appreciate you more than words can express!

We are so proud of the hard work, leadership, and character these students display both inside and outside of the classroom.
Thank you to our teachers and staff for recognizing students who consistently make DYI a positive and supportive place to learn and grow. We also want to thank our families for your continued partnership and support in helping our students shine.
Congratulations again to all of our March Students of the Month! Keep up the amazing work—we are proud of you!

At DYI, our English Learner (EL) students continue to build their language skills through engaging, hands-on learning experiences! In one activity, students practiced speaking English through an interactive game using textbooks, vocabulary terms from chart paper, and yarn to encourage collaboration and conversation. Our after-school “Practice English Through Games” program also continues to provide students from a variety of countries and English proficiency levels with a fun and welcoming environment to strengthen their communication skills and build connections with peers. In class, students connected their learning to the National Geographic curriculum by measuring the size of the world’s largest jellyfish using student steps—bringing vocabulary, math, and science learning to life in an exciting and memorable way!

In Ms. Simpson’s science classroom, students are learning about sound waves. Recently, they completed a hands-on lab exploring how waves move in water and experimented with tuning forks in water to observe vibrations and movement.
In math, students are learning about geometry concepts including symmetry, different types of angles and lines, and how to accurately use protractors to measure angles.

This week, students in Grades 4 and 5 will participate in the Math MCAS on Wednesday, May 13th and Thursday, May 14th. We are confident that our students will continue to show the same perseverance, focus, and hard work that they demonstrated during the ELA MCAS sessions.
We also want to thank our staff in advance for their flexibility and support in helping the testing days run smoothly for all students. Please help us encourage our Dolphins to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and come to school ready to do their best.
Good luck, Dolphins! 🐬➕📐

We are excited to share that we are deep into our One School, One Book initiative as our school community continues reading Fish in a Tree together! It has been wonderful seeing students and families engage in this shared reading experience both at home and at school.
Each night, students have been completing their assigned readings and following along with our shared reading calendar. Throughout the school day, students have also been participating in meaningful class discussions, responding to the Question of the Day featured on our morning show, and joining in on fun trivia activities in the cafeteria each Friday connected to the story.
This experience has created so many opportunities for students to make connections, share their thinking, and build a stronger sense of community through a shared story. We encourage families to continue reading together, talking about favorite moments, discussing characters, and making predictions about what might happen next.
Thank you for supporting this special initiative and helping make our One School, One Book experience such a success. We can’t wait to continue the journey together! 🐬📚
