Good Evening DYI families,
Our first leg of MCAS testing is behind us. We would like to thank all families for their support throughout the week. We know many of you rearranged schedules so your child could complete their testing which is much appreciated. Although our main two days of testing are behind us, we still have make up exams which will keep the school quite busy, especially early this week. On top of MCAS, students will more than likely complete MAP testing before the April vacation. We appreciate everyone’s efforts while we are taking these important tests.
Our 5th grade begins the Lexongton and Concord Field trips this week. These are annual exciting trips where students learn a lot. Please remember, no cell phones on the buses. Teachers will be able to stay in touch with you through ParentSquare and if you have any concerns, you will be able to touch base with your child’s teachers the same way. Also, on our end, the digital field trip forms are working great. If you have any concerns, thoughts or suggestions regarding these digital forms, please message us at blaket@dy-regional.k12.am.us
Next, a huge shout out to the DY High School Color Guard and Winter Percussion who came and performed at DYIMS Friday afternoon. The students were truly excited by the performance. A few were a little nervous because last year’s performance and some surprises in it! We appreciate of all of the performers and staff who annually put on a great show. We wish you well in your upcoming competitions.
Lastly, our lost and found is overflowing. Please come in before the break if you want to see if that special something you can not find in your house, is at school. Once we get to April Vacation, we will donate all of the clothes and part ways with the water bottles and lunch boxes. This is our way of doing some spring cleaning. 🙂
Sincerely,
Mr. Blake, Dr. Greeson and Mrs. Cleary

Students in Mr. Delcourt's class built water filters to try to be the group with the cleanest water! Students are learning about the importance of water conservation and how humans effect the water cycle.
In Math, 5th grade students are learning how to find the area of rectangles and squares by multiplying mixed numbers.

5th graders in Mrs. Somes' and Mrs. Fournier's classes participated in a STEM engineering challenge to build the tallest free-standing tower made of spaghetti that could support a marshmallow. The winning tower was 49 cm tall! Even those who didn't win rose to the challenge and enjoyed working collaboratively with friends.

In Ms. Studley’s class, we spent time making our final preparations for the ELA MCAS. We are also beginning an exciting new unit on tall tales. Students will be reading a variety of tall tale stories and learning about the key characteristics that make this genre unique. By the end of the unit, they will write their own tall tales. I’m looking forward to seeing their creativity shine through in their writing! In Social Studies, we are beginning a unit on how the U.S. government functions.

We’re excited to share that our district, in partnership with our cafeteria team, is now offering fresh local fish as part of our school lunch program. Today’s catch featured fresh cod from Chatham Fish and Lobster, bringing a taste of Cape Cod right to our students’ trays! This initiative helps support local fishermen while giving students the opportunity to enjoy fresh, nutritious, and locally sourced seafood. We’re proud to connect our school community with the incredible resources right here on Cape Cod.

This week, students in Grades 4 and 5 completed Session 1 and Session 2 of the ELA MCAS. Our students worked incredibly hard, and we are proud of the perseverance and focus they showed throughout the testing sessions. We also appreciate the flexibility and support of our staff, who helped ensure the week ran smoothly for everyone. MCAS make-up testing will begin on Monday for any students who still need to complete a session. Great job, Dolphins! 🐬📚

Our DYI Math Bowl Finale brought the whole school together for an exciting showdown! After weeks of classroom competitions to determine the top multiplication champions, one 4th grade finalist and one 5th grade finalist advanced to the ultimate match. Wyatt Norris (Grade 4) went head-to-head with Harper Guimond (Grade 5) in a fierce multiplication battle for the school title. Classrooms across the building tuned in as the event was live-streamed, allowing students and teachers to cheer on their classmates in real time. After an impressive display of math skills, Harper Guimond took home the GOAT medal as the DYI Grade 5 School Math Bowl Champion of 2026! A special thank you to Mrs. Harmon for organizing and hosting this exciting event for our students. 🏆

This week, we are excited to kick off our book review poster project! Students will be creating a poster in which they review their chosen book by analyzing its genre, plot, and character development. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to deepen their critical thinking skills while showcasing their love of reading. Please encourage your child to reflect on their books as they read at home!
Remember that April is National Poetry Month.

We are excited to launch our One School, One Book experience—a special opportunity for our entire school community to come together around a shared story!
Books will be sent home on April 27th, and our schoolwide reading journey will take place over three weeks. Each Monday through Thursday, families will follow a shared reading calendar, helping everyone stay together as we move through the story.
At school, students will engage in activities and conversations connected to the book, and at home, families are invited to be an important part of the experience. To ensure all students can fully participate, every chapter will be available as a read-aloud, so families can listen together at a time that works best for them.
What this looks like at home:
- Set aside time each evening (Monday–Thursday) to listen to the chapter together or have your child listen/read independently
- Talk about the story—favorite parts, predictions, or connections
- Encourage your child to share their thinking and wonderings
Our experience will culminate in a very special event—a visit from the author, who will speak with students during the school day and host an evening event for families.
We can’t wait to begin this journey together!

At DYI, we proudly recognize April as Autism Awareness Month. Our school community values and respects the many differences that make each of our students unique. Every day, we celebrate the strengths, perspectives, and contributions of all learners and continue to foster a culture where everyone feels seen, supported, and included.
|
April is Occupational Therapy (OT) Month, and we would like to take a moment to recognize and thank our incredible district Occupational Therapy specialists. Their work plays an essential role in helping students build the skills they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom—from strengthening fine motor skills for writing and cutting to supporting sensory regulation and independence.
We are grateful for the care, expertise, and dedication they bring to our students every day. Thank you for all that you do to support learning and growth across our schools!

Every year, each public school and school district in Massachusetts receives a report card. Just as your child’s report card shows how they are doing in different subjects, the school’s report card is designed to show families how our school is doing in different areas. A link to our school’s report card is available at 2025 Report Card. Please read the full letter here:

After receiving more than 100 creative cover submissions from our talented students, a small committee had the very difficult job of narrowing the entries down to the top six finalists. Beginning Monday, April 13, students will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite design. The winning cover will be revealed on the morning show on Friday, April 17. Congratulations to all of the students who submitted artwork—your creativity and school spirit made this a truly exciting contest!
