A Message from the Principals

Good Evening DYI Families,

And we’re off!  The beginning-of-the-year rush has come and gone.  We thank you for your help and patience as you received your child’s classroom assignment through PowerSchool, figured out your child’s bus stop, perhaps rented an instrument, and attended our first PTO meeting and Open House.  The beginning of the year is an enjoyable rush.  As I mentioned at Open House, it is always invigorating to see how excited our students are to get back to school and show off their classrooms.
Next up for families is being a Part of our School Council and/or our school PTO.  The School Council annually reviews the School Improvement Plan.  One of the goals is to keep increasing our community engagement.  We want to hold our Music Bingo and Food Around the World Events which are coming up soon. These events will certainly happen with your support.  If you can be a part of our School Council Team, please message us through Parent Square, email, or call the school.  We appreciate your help in advance with these fun events.
Please take a moment to check out the flyers in this newsletter and maybe even scan the QR Code to let us know you can volunteer and help our PTO.  If you did not yet sign up for Cross County or an After School Activity, there still is time.  Speak to your child to see what he/she is interested in and have them be involved with these school activities. If you need an assist, just message us and we will help you get signed up.
Lastly, please plan on PJ’s on Friday.  This is a fun way to give to a great cause!
We are excited about the school year.  It’s been a great start already.

Sincerely,

Mr. Blake, Dr. Greeson, Mrs. Cleary, & Dr. Spano

Pajama Day for Kids with Cancer – In Honor of Kallie

On Friday, September 25th, DYI will proudly participate in Pajammin Day for Kids with Cancer in honor of one of our own fourth-grade students, Kallie, who is currently fighting cancer.
Students and staff are invited to wear their pajamas to school and bring a small donation of $1 or more to help support the fight against pediatric cancer. No donation is too small—every dollar makes a difference! In past years, our DY community has come together to raise thousands of dollars through this special event.
All proceeds will go directly toward supporting childhood cancer efforts through the organization featured in our fundraiser. Most importantly, this is an opportunity for our school community to surround Kallie and her family with love and remind them that they are not fighting alone.
Wear your PJs. Bring a dollar. Support Kallie. Help kids fighting cancer.

A big thank you to all of our students, families, and teachers who joined us for DYI’s Open House on Thursday, September 17! It was wonderful to welcome our families into the building, connect with our school community, and kick off another exciting school year together.

We’re already looking forward to our first community event of the year—stay tuned for the date and more details! We also look forward to connecting with families again during Parent-Teacher Conferences in October.

Show Your DY Spirit Every Friday!

Fridays are DY Spirit Days! We invite all students and staff to show their Dolphin pride by wearing any DY swag or gear they have or by rocking our school colors—green, white, and a little bit of gray!
Let’s fill our school with DY pride every Friday and celebrate the amazing community we’re building together.
Show your colors. Show your spirit. We are stronger as a pod!

Building Big Number Sense in Grade 4

This week in 4th grade math, students began exploring place value beyond the thousands through a hands-on counting activity. Students worked with collections of objects, such as money, and were challenged to decide how to organize, count, and represent their collections efficiently.
Students then examined their classmates’ strategies, compared different approaches, and discussed which methods made counting larger quantities easier and more efficient. It was a great opportunity to build number sense, problem-solving skills, and mathematical thinking!

NFL Owners Draft Brings Learning to Life

Two of our 5th grade classrooms are bringing a little football fun into their learning with an NFL Owners Draft! Students have each taken ownership of an NFL team and will follow their team throughout the season, using the experience to make connections across writing, social studies, research, and math.
Each Friday, the classes will come together to review the upcoming NFL schedule, check the standings, and see how their teams are doing. This fun, real-world learning experience gives students an exciting way to practice important skills while following the NFL season.
The students are excited, and we can’t wait to see where the season takes them!
