Good Day DYI families,
Happy Summer!!! Thank you families for your support throughout the school year. It turned out to be a long, successful, and memorable school year. Each year, at the end of the year, we ask families a number of questions about their relationship with the school and their child's relationship with the school. Of particular interest to us is if families feel a sense of belonging within the school community. We are happy to report that the percentage of families who feel a sense of belonging has increased. There are many factors that contribute to families feeling a sense of belonging to the school and we would like to thank everyone for helping create that positive atmosphere at DY Intermediate. Families, staff, and students, all your efforts are appreciated!
In the summer, we will have a couple of communications to remind you about school events and community announcements. In general, classroom assignments are not sent out until around the third week of August. All schools will release student schedules and teacher assignments at the same time. If you need to stop by the school for any reason, after the Fourth of July, there is summer programming at DYIMS so there is staff at the school at least Monday-Thursday from around 8:30-1:00. We would be happy to see you then and as always, we are available via email.
Otherwise, that's a wrap on 2025-2026 and we are already busy preparing for 2026-2027. Enjoy the Fourth of July weekend and Happy 250th Birthday America!

Congratulations to Our May Students of the Month! As we celebrate the end of another incredible school year, we are proud to recognize our May Students of the Month! These students have consistently demonstrated the Dolphin Way by showing kindness, respect, responsibility, perseverance, and positive leadership in our school community. To celebrate their accomplishments, we also held our annual Student of the Month Celebration, honoring all students recognized from January through May with homemade cookies and juice. It was a wonderful opportunity to recognize the many students who have made a positive impact on our school throughout the year. We extend our sincere appreciation to our teachers and staff for recognizing and celebrating the unique strengths of our students each month. Thank you as well to our families for your continued partnership and encouragement in helping our students grow into caring, responsible, and successful learners. Congratulations to all of our May Students of the Month and to every student who earned this recognition throughout the year. Your positive choices and commitment to the Dolphin Way help make DY Intermediate School a place where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and inspired to do their best. Congratulations to our newly selected Fifth Grade Student Ambassadors for the 2026–2027 school year! These students were nominated by their fourth-grade teachers because they consistently demonstrate the Dolphin Way by being respectful, responsible, safe, and kind. They are positive role models who lead by example, make thoughtful choices, show compassion toward others, and contribute to creating a welcoming and inclusive school community. Throughout next school year, our Student Ambassadors will represent DY Intermediate School by welcoming families and visitors during school events, assisting at Open House, Parent-Teacher Conferences, Step-Up Day, and other special activities. They will also have opportunities to serve as leaders and mentors to younger students while continuing to model what it means to be a Dolphin. Our fifth graders put their engineering and science skills to the test during the annual NEED Energy House Competition! Working in teams, students designed and built model houses while following a specific building code. They carefully selected and installed different insulating and conducting materials to keep their homes as cool as possible. After construction, each house was tested to see which design was the most energy efficient. Students applied what they learned about heat transfer, insulation, teamwork, and problem-solving throughout the challenge. Congratulations to our four winning teams for designing the most efficient energy-saving houses! The competition was a fun and engaging way for students to end the school year while showcasing their creativity, collaboration, and STEM learning. Great job, fifth graders!

This month in the library, students strengthened their digital citizenship skills by exploring phishing scams and online information awareness. Through engaging discussions and hands-on activities, students learned how to recognize common signs of phishing attempts, identify online safety risks, and think critically before clicking links or sharing personal information. These lessons help prepare students to navigate the digital world safely and confidently. Students also recognized National Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month by learning about the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander individuals who have made a lasting impact on our communities and our world.

On Tuesday, June 16, DY Intermediate School celebrated what we proudly call the best Field Day on Cape Cod! Students enjoyed a day filled with fun, teamwork, and school spirit as they rotated through a variety of exciting activities, including an inflatable relay race, Ducks and Tag, water balloon races, a dunk tank, tug-of-war, class photos, and even a chance to cool off under the spray of the local fire department's hose. The day ended on a sweet note as everyone enjoyed refreshing popsicles together. This year's Field Day was especially meaningful as it marked Ms. Mal's final Field Day at DYI. We are incredibly grateful for the enthusiasm, care, and countless memories she has created for our students over the years. Thank you to Ms. Mal, our staff, volunteers, and community partners for making this year's celebration one to remember! |
As we close out the school year, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Officer Brewer and his trusted partner, Finley, as they begin a new chapter. For the past 15 years, Officer Brewer has served as a School Resource Officer in the Dennis-Yarmouth School District, making a lasting impact on countless students, families, and staff. When asked what he will miss most, his answer was simple: the relationships. Building connections with students and families has been the most rewarding part of his career, and those relationships have helped make our schools safer, stronger, and more welcoming. Of course, we can't forget Finley! She has brought smiles wherever she goes and will surely miss all of the treats and love she received from students and staff throughout our buildings. Thank you, Officer Brewer and Finley, for your years of service, kindness, and dedication to our school community. You will always be part of the DY family, and we hope you'll stop by for frequent visits. Once a Dolphin, always a Dolphin!

Final report cards are now available for families to view digitally through ParentSquare. As part of our move toward paperless communication, paper copies will not be sent home. We encourage all families to log into ParentSquare to review their child's report card and celebrate the growth and accomplishments made throughout the school year. We are excited to kick off another summer of reading! Every incoming Grade 4 student has received a copy of I Survived Hurricane Katrina, 2005 by Lauren Tarshis to enjoy over the summer. This engaging historical fiction graphic novel follows Barry, a young boy who experiences the devastating events of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. As Barry becomes separated from his family, he must rely on courage, resilience, and determination to survive alongside his beloved dog. The story provides students with an exciting adventure while introducing them to an important moment in history. We encourage all students to make reading a part of their summer routine. Reading for just 20 minutes each day helps build vocabulary, strengthens comprehension, and keeps young minds active and prepared for the new school year. Be sure to check out the DYIS Summer Reading Challenge flyer below for fun ways to stay motivated and earn recognition for your summer reading accomplishments. Dear Families, The 2026 Dennis-Yarmouth Middle School Summer Reading Program information is NOW AVAILABLE! The Assignment: All students must read one book of their choice this summer (any age-appropriate fiction or nonfiction book; sorry... no Dog Man or Diary of a Wimpy Kid).
- The Accountability: No written book reports. Students will do a 2-minute talk about their book in small groups this September.
- The VIP Challenge: Avid readers can complete the optional 1000 Page Challenge!

As we approached the end of the school year, we decided to do something different for our 5th graders. We hosted a kickball tournament. Over the course of nine games, our champions were Mr. Delcourt and Ms. Studley's homerooms. The students cheered and laughed and showed their competitive spirit! This could become a yearly tradition!! |
For our upcoming fourth graders, be on the look-out for information about the 4th Grade Ice cream Social. This is typically held a week before school starts in September. New fourth graders will have the opportunity to have an ice cream, tour the school through a scavenger hunt, and enjoy a craft! As we say goodbye to the 25-26 school year, we look forward to meeting a whole new class of fourth graders! |
