Good afternoon DYI families,
This will be a brief newsletter because we know most people may be tuning into ParentSquare to see if we have a dealy or will be missing school on Monday. NO hints here. We find out when you find out as well.
In school, learning is in full swing. All classrooms are vibrant and students are working hard which we love to see. In case you need something to keep your child busy on a snow day, we have a couple of contests that are open. There is a poster contest about “Kind People are the Best People” which is due January 31. We also have the annual Voices of Peace contest which almost annually has a student from DYI in the winner’s circle and accepting a reward. We hope this year is no different.
While it is snowing out, we are posting spring sports and summer camp as organizations reach out to the school and distinct. Can you believe you can already sign up for summer camp? Read below to see an opportunity fir intramural sports, spring sports and summer camp.
Thanks for reading and Go Pats!
Sincerely,
Mr. Blake, Dr. Greeson & Mrs. Cleary

This week in Art Class, cycle 6 students finished up their first two-dimensional artworks of the year! Fourth graders used chalk pastel to create wintery polar bears, while grade 5 utilized oil pastels and watercolor to make playful penguins. All are now onto glazing their beautiful bowls and mugs. |
Here are a few photos of our students practicing the math fluency portion of Eureka Squared. They are working hard using partial products and the area model to solve two-digit multiplication problems. |
Each morning, we begin by warming up our brains with hands-on thinking using vertical whiteboards and individual whiteboards. This routine encourages students to explain their thinking, build confidence, and start the day thinking mathematically first thing! |

5th Graders have mastered moving to a piece of music called O Fortuna. Ask your musician to tell you a little about the history of the song and about the language in which it's performed. |
Students in 4th grade have all been demonstrating outstanding teamwork while working on their dance from the Philippines called Apat Apat.

Fifth-grade students play an important mentoring role by working with fourth graders on math facts, reading, and positive behavior. By practicing Math facts, 5th graders reinforce skills such as multiplication, division, and problem-solving while modeling effective study habits and listening to Fourth Graders read. They support fluency, comprehension, and confidence in a supportive, student-friendly way. At the same time, fifth graders serve as positive role models by demonstrating responsibility, kindness, and respect, showing younger students what it looks like to be prepared, focused, and encouraging. This mentoring experience benefits both levels by strengthening academic skills, building leadership and communication abilities, and fostering a strong sense of community within the school. |
This week, our school community came together to celebrate the New England Patriots as they advance to the AFC Championship Game. As the team heads to Denver, Colorado, to take on the Denver Broncos this Sunday, students and staff proudly wore red, white, and blue to show their Patriots pride and support our local team. It was a fun and spirited way to build community while recognizing an exciting moment in New England football. |
NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) is a national test that is used to measure student achievement in subjects like math and reading. The NAEP is not given to all students, but rather to a randomly selected representative of students. The NAEP is given every two years to students in grades 4, 8, and 12. This year, DYIS will be administering the NAEP to fifty fourth graders. The NAEP is administered on February 5th and the school will be in contact with the families of the selected students. We will find out soon who is selected to take this test. |
At DYIS, we follow the PODS expectations:
Practice Responsibility Offer Respect Demonstrate Kindness Stay Safe
To help reinforce Practice Responsibility, Mrs. Cleary and Dr. Greeson will begin hosting a Work Refusal Dolphin Time block once each week. If a student is consistently not completing their classwork during the week, their teacher may send them to this block to finish the assignments. Students will receive full credit for all completed work.
If a student is sent to the Work Refusal RTI block three times within a six-week period, Mrs. Cleary or Dr. Greeson will contact families, and the student will be required to stay after school to complete their work.
The good news is that this rarely happens—most students never need to attend, and those who do typically only go once! |
On Wednesday, February 4, our school will celebrate Global Play Day, a worldwide initiative that highlights the importance of play in children’s learning, development, and well-being. Students are invited to bring in age-appropriate games from home to share with classmates as they engage in collaborative, screen-free play throughout the day. Global Play Day provides an opportunity for students to build creativity, problem-solving skills, and positive social connections while learning through play. |
On Thursday, January 29th, we will have our second school-wide reward after each team has earned $300 Dolphin Dollars. It will be an Hour of Play. Students and teachers can choose from Kahoot or Blookit, Card or board games, Four Corners, Heads Up / Stand Up or other age-appropriate games/play of your choice. (Pictures to come)

The clinic will be a mix of teaching skills and giving players a chance to play basketball with each other. Please complete the form below so we can plan our activities.
