Good Evening DYI families,
Last week was a busy one at DYI. Wednesday night was our first PTO meeting of the year. Thursday was our first ever Family Fun Night. Musical Bingo was a hit. Thank you to the hundreds of students, families and staff who came and enjoyed the night. Also, a shout out to the 99 who donated tons of popcorn. This event was planned since last spring as we are looking for different ways for families to get to know the other families in their child’s class. It's hard to be a community until we get to know one another. The school’s Site Council will be meeting again in two weeks to plan another event for families.
Over the next couple of weeks, there are a couple of days that you should have marked on your calendar. On October 1, there is an early release day which means we dismiss at 1:15. Then on Friday, October 10, there is a full day Professional Day with no school for students. Please mark these days on your calendar.
For Grade 5 families, we will be planning a Seashore meeting in the near future. This is your chance to come and learn about the week-long seashore trip. The meeting will be led by the director of the NEED Academy, Ellie Moody. Ms. Moody has been the leader of these trips for more than a decade. She will be give all families an overview of the trip and she will be able to take care of your child’s possible individual needs when they are on the trip. We also plan on having translators available at the meeting.
Lastly, we are excited that the Red Sox are in the playoffs. It’s short notice but let's have a Red Sox Day on Tuesday, September 30. The playoff schedule was just released and Sox vs. the team from New York on Tuesday. Anything Red Sox, baseball, softball or red works for Tuesday. Go Sox!
Sincerely,
Mr. Blake, Dr. Greeson, and Mrs. Cleary
